Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks KS R12  - Champion of Europe!

What a show season this bull had in 2021!  He only did three shows - The Royal Highland Showcase, Devon County Show and The Great Yorkshire Show.  He certainly was on form winning Breed Championships at all three and then following on with Native Champion at the Royal Highland, Interbreed Champion at Devon County and Reserve Interbreed Champion at the Great Yorkshire.

In the autumn his offspring followed in his footsteps at the calf shows leaving us with exciting prospects for the show and sale ring in 2022.  Proving he is a breeder not just a bull for the show ring!

In December Rebel Kicks was crowned Champion Bull of Europe in the Hereford Breeder Competition and awarded third place bull in the world.  Something we are very proud of!

He may be retired from the show ring but this is not the last you will hear of Rebel Kicks!  We still have semen for sale at £80 per straw.

Designer Genes Sale Online Sale - A huge success!

Our two entries in the online Designer Genes Sale did us proud!  The sale which was a live online auction using the MartEye platform was an overwhelming success with a record breaking average price of just over £6,300.  Our herd sire prospect Moralee 1 Tommy Lad KR T2 sold for 5,000gns to Neil & Emma Howie, Chatton, Northumberland.  Also our heifer Moralee 1 Kylie KS S10 sold for 6,600gns to Tony Vasami, Cardiganshire, Wales.

We didn't just sell we also purchased a new addition.    Auckvale Curly 1831S was purchased for 10,000gns and we are very excited about this heifer joining the Moralee herd.

As we continue to live in these extraordinary times - we are left wondering if online sales like this are the new normal!

The "Super Model" and the Stockman!

Our champion bull Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks KS R12 taking a break during a recent photo shoot with our very own Di Harrison.  Just a snap shot into just how docile Hereford cattle are!

Rebel Kicks himself has had a busy summer bulling cows rather than a summer in the show ring, but we have the exciting prospect of his calves being due in the spring.  We have also sold a lot of straws of his semen to pedigree and commercial breeders throughout the UK and it is now available in Ireland.  There is plenty more available - contact us for more information.

Moralee 1 Sir Loin KS S18 - Now Sold!

We recently advertised this guy for sale on our Facebook page.  We are glad to announce that he sold very quickly and will be off to his new home very soon.

He is very dark in colour, long wide and homozygous polled - guaranteeing no calf dehorning!  He's a son of 2019 Hereford Sire of the Year SMH Kingsize 87K and his dam is Moralee 1 Mink 53 (with Romany 1 Mink and Cornriggs 1 Knightrider breeding).  A great looking bull at just 16 months old.

We have some autumn 2019 and spring 2020 born bull calves coming along very well and these will be exciting prospects in 2021!  With dams including Moralee 1 Kylie, Moralee 1 Kimberly and Coley 1 Pippa 356 and sired by SMH Kingsize 87K or Cornriggs 1 Knightrider.  Watch this space for more or on these - or better still come and see them in the flesh!  Contact us for more information.

Our Pippa makes Top 3 of Champions of the Decade

In the absence of shows the Scottish Farmer are running a Champions of the Decade competition on Facebook and in the newspaper.  The Hereford breed champions from the Royal Highland Show between 2010 and 2019 were voted for and the top 3 have been announced.  Our champion from 2017 Coley 1 Pippa 356 has made the top 3 and is  going forward to be judged for overall breed champion of the decade.  We are delighted with this result and it is an honour to be in some great company in the top 3!

Pippa was a 2 year old senior heifer when she won the Royal Highland Show Championship in 2017 and had an amazing year winning a string of championships.  She continued her winning ways in 2018 with first calf Moralee 1 RHS Prince KR R8 at foot, finishing the year with Senior Female and  Reserve Grand Female Champion at the National Poll Show.  Pippa was Reserve Female of the Year in 2017 and 2018.

She has developed into a strong cow with 5 amazing progeny to her name.  Her first calf born in 2018 Moralee 1 RHS Prince KR R8 has been retained in the herd and is producing some great calves of his own - both pedigree and commercial.  In 2019 her second natural calf was a heifer Moralee 1 Pippa KS S11 (sired by SMH Kingsize 87K)  and we were also lucky enough to get an embryo heifer Moralee 1 Pippa S16 (sired by Moralee 1 Panda).  Everyone got a glimpse of rising star Moralee 1 Pippa KS S11 at last autumns calf shows, and we are sure this pair would have been something special to see in the show ring this summer.

Spring 2020 calves have not disappointed, she gave birth to another heifer Moralee 1 Pippa  KR T21 (sired by Cornriggs 1 Knightrider) and we have had an embryo bull calf Moralee 1 TamOshanter KR T23  (also sired by Cornriggs 1 Knightrider).  These are both full siblings to Moralee 1 RHS Prince KR R8 and at a few weeks old are shaping up to be stars of the future.

So whats next for Pippa?  She is unlikely to do many more shows herself but at only 5 years old we never say never!  We hope that her daughters and yearling son will get the chance to shine in the show ring in 2021, as well as the progeny from RHS Prince.  This summer Pippa is being flushed to our champion bull Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks KS R12 and we are so excited about the prospect of the calves that could be produced from this.  Calf shows 2021 could be interesting!

Knightrider the cover star!

The 2020 Hereford Breed Journal landed on our door mats in early February 2020 and what a surprise we got!  Our senior herd sire Cornriggs 1 Knightrider is on the cover!  This lad has done us proud over the years producing some outstanding progeny which we have both retained in our herd and successfully sold to other pedigree herds.  Backed up by some great EBV's calving ease of +6 which is in the top 2% of the breed, gestation in the top 30% of the breed, eye muscle area in the top 4% of the breed.  An ideal choice for use on young heifers.  We have Knightrider semen available for sale at £10 per straw.

10,000gns for #UKHYLUCY

In December 2019 we offered Moralee 1 Lucy KS S1 as a consignment at Designer Genes with half the sale proceeds being donated to UK Hereford Youth for overseas travel bursaries.  Lucy was Grand Female Champion at Bucks County Show in August 2019 at 11 months old.  We were delighted with the sale achieving top price of the 10,000gns, sold to MJ Ludgate, Rempstone Herefords from Thame, Oxfordshire.  We are so very proud to support the youngsters that are the future of our breed.

Royal Welsh Winter Fair

With joint owners Steven O'Kane and Helen Morgan from Keadyview Livestock we had a huge success with our steer "Beef Box" at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair.  He was Champion Hereford and Champion Native and went on to sell for £2.75 per kilo to William Lloyd Williams & Son.

Two Championships for Kylie

In September 2019 at the National Poll Show held at Moreton in the Marsh our then 11 month old heifer Moralee 1 Kylie KS S3 was Overall Junior and Junior Female Champion.  Three months later at the Shrewsbury Christmas Calf Show Kylie was Supreme Champion.  Sired by SMH Kingsize 87K and the dam is Moralee 1 Kylie who has to be our best cow!  Full sibling embryos were offered for sale as part of the Designer Genes global genetics sale also in December 2019 and were sold for £500 per embryo.

Moralee 1 Kylie KS S3 was Overall Junior and FemaIe Junior Champion at the 2019 National Poll Show.

Kingsize - "King of Sires"

In 2016 we purchased SMH Kingsize 87K from Cogent after they imported him from Denmark in 2015.  He has been influential across our herd and has sired many of our top show cattle.  This was reflected when in October 2019 Kingsize was awarded National Hereford Sire of the Year.  As we have retained a lot of his daughters in the herd Kingsize has now moved on to a new owner but he has certainly left his stamp at Moralee.

Rebel Kicks Ass!

Our bull Moralee 1 Rebel Kicks KS R12 had an exceptional show season in 2019.  This young bull born in April 2018 took the show ring by storm with our team members from Keadyview Cattle Grooming - Steven O'Kane and Helen Morgan.  He was awarded Joint National Poll Bull of the Year and Reserve Overall Bull of the Year 2019.  He also had some interbreed success winning the Overall Native Champion Junior Bull at the Royal Welsh Show.  At Designer Genes global genetics sale Rebel semen was sold at £80 per straw.  Semen will be available from this bull in Spring 2020.

National Hereford Show Herd 2019

At the Hereford Society Awards Dinner in October 2019, we were delighted to pick up the National Show Herd of the Year Award.  During 2019 the Moralee Team travelled far and wide with success at many shows including Northumberland, Royal Highland , Great Yorkshire, Royal Welsh, Perth, Bucks County, Shropshire, Royal Three Counties, Kington and National Poll Show yielding a collection of breed and interbreed championships along the way.
